On January 24th and 25th we held a 9-Ball Open as part of the McDermott Tour. Due to
the uncontrollable weather we did not have a full field, but a great tournament
nonetheless. With 49 men and 2 women, things ran a little faster and the matches
didn’t run quite so late.
Our B-side winner Mike Vidas started out great with a 9-3 win over Marvin Nash, but
then lost to our local, Soud Alabdulrazaq 9-6. I think this upset Mike because he tore
through the B-side defeating Tony Waters 7-0, Scott Chandler 7-0, Darin Walding 7-4,
Dave Martin 7-2, Marlon Oliveras 7-5, Bernie Mikkelsen 7-4, Randy Camantigue 7-0, Nick
Kruger 7-3 and finally Stan Tourangeau 7-2 to go on and play Edwin Montal in the
winner’s final.
Edwin started quite the same as usual. Tony Waters unfortunately didn’t have any luck
of the draw. He was Edwin’s first victim and Mike’s second. Edwin defeated Tony Waters
9-3, P J Massicotte 9-7, David Williams 9-5, Come’ Plourde 9-7, Randy Camantigue 9-5
and Stan Tourangeau 9-2 to face Mike Vidas in the winner’s final.
Mike and Edwin both started out fierce with their minds set on winning. The first set
went back and forth until Mike broke away to win 9-6 in the first set. Edwin came back
with his game face on and would not settle for anything less than first place. Edwin
won 9-4 the final set and took yet another tournament. Excellent shooting you guys!
This being the first tournament I’ve run at The Falls Club, I was very pleased with the
way things ran. I want to thank the owner, John Carr for his generous amount of added
money to give this tournament such a great pay out, the McDermott Tour, and the staff
at The Falls for all their hard work to keep our pool players happy and fed. Without
them, these tournaments would not be possible. I’m looking forward to the next one.
