What once was just a dream became a reality in the form of “The Break Room” for Drew
and Robin Brown. The Brown’s were owners of a small but well-established billiard
retail store in Medford, Oregon called “Billiards and Sports”. The store originally
opened in 1987 - Drew joined the company in 1990. They were then given the
opportunity to purchase the store in 1996.
Ever since they took ownership of the store, they dreamed of opening an upscale
poolroom. Finally, the opportunity came and The Break Room Billiard Café was opened
in the fall of 2002 in the Medford Center – a major shopping center in town. In
2004 Russ Ritter and Kelley Johnson came aboard as co-partners with Drew and
Robin.
The Break Room Billiard Café has become one of the nicest over-21 establishments in
Medford due in part to its smoke-free atmosphere. There are a total of twelve pool
tables, which include five 9-foot Olhausen Grand Champions tables, two 9-foot
Diamond Professional tables, one 7-foot Olhausen Remington table and four 7-foot
Diamond Smart Tables – one of the finest coin-operated tables available. In
addition to pool, there are two big-screens and televisions to catch up on the
latest scores, Oregon Lottery video games and steel-tip darts.
The “Café” is a full-service restaurant serving a wide variety of items on its
menu from burgers to steaks. Many of their items are homemade from family
recipes – i.e. Robin’s Chili! There is also a full cocktail bar. One of their
specialties is the Jimmy Buffet Margarita – made with Jimmy’s own spirits.
The Break Room accommodates parties and groups of all sizes up to 200+ people. A
private parlor is available to rent for smaller gatherings, but larger private or
business groups can also rent larger portions of the establishment. Other
activities at The Break Room include APA 8-Ball and 9-Ball sanctioned leagues, a
regular weekly Thursday tournament with a $3.00 buy in, local leagues and various
larger tournaments held every couple of months or so. They soon will become a
BCA host location as well.
Next door is the retail store “Billiards and Sports”. It been known as a “big boy
toys store” selling a variety of billiard equipment, darts, game room equipment and
casino supplies. They specialize in new table sales including Olhausen and World
of Leisure pool tables. They also perform service work on pool tables including
moving and setup, recoveries and cushion replacement. Drew performs the work himself
and has become an authority on a good majority of table manufacturers in the
industry.
Hours of operation for The Break Room are Monday through Thursday from 11:30am to
Midnight / Friday and Saturday from 11:30am to 2:00am / Sunday from 3:00pm to
Midnight.
Billiards and Sports is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00am to
6:00pm and closed on Sundays.
