Marielle Calizo, 33 yrs. old, has been a top respected female pool player in
Las Vegas, NV for over 10 years. She suffered a massive stroke on May 7th,
2010 and is recovering from temporary paralysis. We held our first
fundraising event for Marielle on May 30th at Pool Sharks and raised over
$3,000 from local players, tavern sponsors and league owners in town, which
assisted with medical equipment. Unfortunately, the Hyperbaric Oxygen
Therapy as well as Physical Therapy is extremely expensive, with no medical
benefits. So we are pleased to announce a second fundraising tournament of
Scotch Doubles 8-ball to be held at the Las Vegas Cue Club on July 24th.
All players are welcome!

On Saturday, December 12th, Mazzy’s Sports Bar & Grill in Roswell, Georgia hosted their 3rd Annual Toys for Tots Blind Draw Scotch Doubles Tournament. Fourteen teams from the northern Georgia area contested for the $680 total prize fund in the Double Elimination 9-Ball Scotch Doubles event. Firman Widjaksono and David Holloway came out of the losers’ bracket to defeat Jerry Ray and Thomas Morgan twice to claim the championship. The final game, with both teams on the hill, was decided with a 9-on-the-break by David Holloway. (See the Press Release and Tournament Flyer attached.)
However, the real winners in this tournament were the needy children in the greater Atlanta area. More than two barrels of toys were collected in support of the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign. Our thanks go out to George Arnett, owner of Mazzy’s Sports Bar & Grill, and Jimmy Potter, the tournament director for their efforts in support of this deserving cause. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event and we are all looking forward to the 4th annual tournament next December.
